Our description:

The blue azurite is a mineral which is relatively soft (Mohs hardness: 3,5 to 4). This gem comes from Chessy near Lyon (France), from a mine, which don’t exist anymore. This mine is famous for its minerals in radiating aggregates.
The gem is about 4 cm in diameter with crystals up to 1 cm..

The azurite is - as it does also the malachite - a so-called secondary mineral which was created by processes of erosion within the zone of oxidation of copper mines. CO2-containing liquids have an effect on primary copper- corresponding to the pressure results azurite (high pressure) or malachite (lower pressure).

By treatment the azurite’s natural shine of glass can almost be increased to a sparkle of a diamond. The big brittleness of  the mineral during cutting may be an obstacle hereby.

The monocline mineral normaly is opaque. It is a copper carbonate.

The trigonale mineral is a copper silicate, which can be found very rarely. This gem has dimensions of about 4 cm with some crystals up to 0,7 cm. The darkgreen mineral has a Mohs hardness of about 5. It is transparent and has the shape of a druse. Also it was created within a zone of oxidation of a copper mine. Chemically it is very stable and resistant to alteration.

Stones which are cut have a vivid sparkle.
