Market place- Town hall

Rund um Bad Gandersheim > Touristic Attractions > City of Bad Gandersheim

The Town Hall as you see it today is built in the so-called style of Weserrenaissance.

After a huge fire in 1580 it is has been reconstructed out of the remaining sections of a town Hall of the 14th century and of eastern parts and the tower of the former marketchurch.

It is right in the middle of the historical city on the market place, which is surrounded by lots of restorated half-timbered houses  The Town Hall shelters a museum in the attic since 1952. The so called  Watch's room" - where the city guard was living - is on its highest point and often used for wine seminars. There are 140 steps to be climbed to reach this room. But then - once having arrived- you can enjoy a nice overview over the old town of Bad Gandersheim

Beside the entrance to the "Ratskeller" (inn) you can find the so called "Blasphemy stones" and "Jougs" a sign of the medieval jurisdiction.

At the corner Town Hall / Moritzstreet you will find a plague basket and the Municipal coat of arms, the coat of arms of brunswick dukes and the old the town hall balance.
